Bucher and VanHollen.....

The following does not attempt to emasculate either candidate. I'm just telling it like it is.....

Listened to the podcast of the debate at State Fair today:

I haven't really paid a whole lot of attention to this race, because there hasn't been a whole lot to respond to. Until today.

That's the problem with first impressions: you only get one.

To the handlers of both candidates: You MUST do something to make your candidate sound more authoratative (if that's a word). What I heard was two very whiny people taking potshots at each other. If that means bribing the sound guy to add a little bass to your candidate's voice, so be it. This is a totally subjective comment: I want the AG to sound like a voice of authority (and that means a lower, commanding voice, not a mosquito slap-inducing whine), like someone who is going to make a difference, not like a whiny finger-pointing wimp. And that is exactly what I heard today, from both sides.

I was looking for some cheese in the omelet (something of substance that would make either candidate stand out), and I really didn't find any. The candidates are not very far apart on the issues, and I think both of them went way out of their way to try to differentiate themselves....It didn't work for me.

Bucher sounded like a little kid stamping his foot on the ground in a temper tantrum. VanHollen didn't sound much different, but he did do a little better.

While Bucher may be called a "bulldog," (here) he came off more as a well-groomed and peticured poodle (those dogs are soooo yappy). VanHollen came off a little bit more on the credible side, but I still felt that both candidates should be capable of expressing themselves and their views on the issues in a more succinct way that would make them sound like they mean business. I didn't hear that today.

I haven't made up my mind yet, and I hope future debates will bring out more positive and attractive traits for both candidates. This is a difficult decision to make for me, and for a lot of voters in Cheeseland.
