What is Up with the Wisconsin Blogosphere??

This has been a busy month, not a whole lot of time to blog, or read blogs for that matter. My site meter appears to have dropped to zero (but that might be because I changed formats, and I don't remember how to get it back on there - yes, I am a Blogger idiot). Being under the weather over the weekend did give me a chance to catch up on what is going on at some of the Wisconsin blogs.

What is going on? The Wisconsin conservative blogger scene has changed in the last couple of months, it's become a cross-linking, blog-rolling lovefest for local celebrities and politicians.

Why are so many of the Wisconsin conservative bloggers chapping their lips kissing Charlie Sykes' butt? I give Charlie credit for helping to draw attention to the Wisconsin blogosphere, but is getting on his blogroll worth making a spectacle of yourself? Is preparing pandering posts (love alliteration) to garner his attention and maybe get a link the end-all-be-all in the Wisconsin blogosphere? Is Jessica McBride so hot that you have to pen some drippingly flirtatious tribute to get her to notice you?

In the old days, I think the word was "starstruck." Or was it "suckup?" Maybe a little of both, here...

One of the things I liked about our Wisconsin blogs was that the bloggers were not connected to the people they were writing about. That enabled them to write objectively, and they weren't influenced by real or perceived acquaintenceships/friendships with their subjects. That has changed as local politicians jumped on the blog bandwagon. And the polits haven't shown much restraint in using the blogosphere to their advantage and curry favor and exposure from the more prominent blogs.

As a result, some bloggers appear to be getting too close to the story, and their posts reflect it. We used to have the voices of regular Wisconsin residents analyzing and commenting on what goes on in our state and in our country. They were real voices, real people. Something happened in the last few months, I'm not sure what...

More on this tomorrow...
